Member for Holt
Anthony Byrne is the Federal Member for the Holt electorate in the House of Representatives in the Australian Parliament.
Anthony was elected in a by-election in 1999, and re-elected in 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2010.
Anthony served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister from November 2007 until 14 September 2010. In this role, Anthony oversaw government legislation on the Prime Minister’s behalf to manage the Government’s agenda. Through this role Anthony had responsibility for the Australian Institute of Family Studies (an independent government agency) and the National Security Science and Technology Unit (a branch within PM&C).
Anthony was also the Parliamentary Secretary for Trade from February 2009 until 14 September 2010. In this role, Anthony worked closely with the Minister for Trade to grow Australia’s economy and build a more prosperous Australia, and to create more opportunities for all Australians.
Following the 2010 Election, Mr Byrne was appointed as the Chair of the Statutory Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security.
Prior to entering Parliament, Anthony was Chief Executive Officer of a mental health foundation and an adviser to Senator Jacinta Collins.
Anthony was born in Adelaide and spent his early childhood in the goldfields of Kalgoorlie, where he was educated at local schools and through the School of the Air. He later returned to Adelaide and attended Christian Brothers College.
Anthony has lived in Endeavour Hills for the past fifteen years. He has a son who recently graduated from secondary school and a daughter who is attending university.
