Less than a day after branding Australian women as ironing ladies (and then calling them hypersensitive for being offended) the man who is putting himself forward as the alternative Prime Minister tried to deflect attention with a quasi-announcement about paid parental leave.  This is the same person who said he would only support paid parental leave “over my dead body”.

Parent School Quality Surveys added to My School (News)

The survey could canvass the ethos of the school and those issues that matter to parents and students such as the level of respect, quality of relationships, culture of the school and whether the school gives students a fair go.

The My School website provides more information about all of Australia’s nearly 10,000 schools than has ever been available to the parents before.

It provides a report card for each school with rich information about the number of students, the number of teachers, attendance rates, literacy and numeracy outcomes from NAPLAN and the background of students going to the school.

New $2.25 million childcare centre for Bendigo families (News)

The Rudd Government is investing $1.6 million, the Victorian Government is contributing $500,000 and the Greater Bendigo City Council is providing $150,000 to build the new centre.

Premier John Brumby and Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard today announced $2.25 million for a new integrated childcare centre for Bendigo.

In Bendigo today, Mr Brumby said the centre would provide at least 50 new long-day care places for the Bendigo community.

Minister for Early Childhood Education and Child Care Kate Ellis today launched a new online tool to help families budget for child care.

The Child Care Estimator shows families what financial support the Government can give them through the Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate.

“As families plan for 2010, the Estimator will help them make more accurate and well-informed decisions about child care,” Ms Ellis said.
