Australia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have settled a new air services agreement, opening the way for new international flights into Australia’s regional airports.

Under the new arrangements, airlines such as Emirates and Etihad will be able to operate up to an additional seven services a week into Australia’s major gateway airports (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth), provided these services go via a regional centre such as Cairns, Darwin or Adelaide.

Trade Minister Simon Crean today signed a letter of intent with South Africa’s Minister for Water and Environmental Affairs, Buyelwa Sonjica to renew the Australia-South Africa climate change partnership.

The renewed three-year partnership will focus on joint activities including in the priority areas of climate change adaptation in the agriculture sector and greenhouse emissions reporting and monitoring.

Minister for Trade Simon Crean and Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Tony Burke are pleased to announce that the European Union has granted Australia market access to its new EU Tariff Quota for high quality beef.

The duty-free quota, which first became available in August last year, provides for an additional global supply of 20,000 tonnes of high quality beef into the EU each year.

New trade figures show that almost all of Australia's states and territories increased the value of their exports despite the impact of the global downturn, Trade Minister Simon Crean said.

Last financial year the value of Australian exports rose 22.6 per cent to $283.8 billion from $231.5 billion in 2007-08 and today the government is releasing a comprehensive breakdown of how the states and territories performed.
