Cathy was born, raised and educated in Townsville. She is the CEO of a not-for-profit mental health organisation that operates in North and West Queensland, including Palm Island.
Cathy’s parents instilled in her the belief that everyone deserves the right to a quality education, a job and somewhere to call home.
She and her husband were married in Townsville, where they raised and educated their three children. Cathy started working as an apprentice hairdresser and at the age of eighteen became a small business owner in partnership with her mother. Cathy and her husband have owned and operated a range of small businesses in the retail, hairdressing and vocational education and training industries for many years.
Cathy worked in the TAFE sector in a teaching and project management role as well as the community sector as a CEO for thirteen years. Cathy’s passion and commitment to lifelong learning encouraged her to continue studying and achieve a range of tertiary education qualifications.
Cathy understands the importance of preparation, hard work and respect needed to represent our community. Cathy will fight for job security and workers rights, quality education, affordable and accessible health care and childcare, a fair deal for our defence personnel and pensioners, and for a better deal for small business.
