Tax cuts in the last three budgets
Labor is committed to alleviating cost of living pressures for hard working Australians and reducing the burden for small businesses and companies.
In the last three years Labor has cut taxes for working families and low income earners:
- Someone on $30,000 is paying $750 less tax than in 2007-08. That’s 26% less tax
- Someone on $50,000 is paying $1,750 less tax than in 2007-08. That’s 18% less tax
- Someone on $80,000 is paying $1,550 less tax than in 2007-08. That’s 8% less tax
Helping Families with the Education Tax Refund
The Education Tax Refund is helping working families meet the cost of education – providing a rebate for things like laptops, software and school text books. Eligible families can claim a 50% tax refund on eligible expenses of up to $750 for each child undertaking primary school studies and up to $1,500 for each secondary school child.
