Anthony Byrne was elected as the Federal Member for Holt in a by-election in 1999, and re-elected in 2001 and 2004.
Appointed as Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs in December 2006, Anthony is also Deputy Chair of the Joint Statutory Committee on Intelligence and Security.
Anthony is a member of the ALP Caucus Committee on Security and Defence. He has also served on several parliamentary committees, including the Joint Parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee.
Prior to entering Parliament, Anthony was Chief Executive Officer of a mental health foundation and an adviser to Senator Jacinta Collins.
Anthony was born in Adelaide and spent his early childhood in the Goldfields of Kalgoorlie, where he was educated at local schools and through the School of the Air. He later returned to Adelaide and attended Christian Brothers College.
Anthony now lives in Endeavour Hills. He has a daughter and son, both currently at secondary school.
