Karl Bitar was the National Secretary of Australian Labor from October 2008 to April 2011.
Karl was General Secretary of the Australian Labor Party (NSW Branch) between December 2007 and October 2008. He was Assistant General Secretary between 2004 and the end of 2007 and he served as the NSW ALP State Organiser between 1999 and 2004.
Karl was Labor’s National Campaign Director for the 2010 Federal Election and he was the NSW Labor Campaign Director for the 2007 Federal Election. He was the Deputy Campaign Director for the 2007 NSW State Election and the Target Seats Coordinator for the 2003 NSW State Election. He has also directed numerous successful target seat and by-election campaigns.
Since joining the ALP 18 years ago, Karl has played an active role in working to modernise the Party and make it more accessible to supporters by advocating reforms to Party structures and by investing heavily in Labor’s online and social media presence. He was also instrumental in establishing and promoting Labor’s successful Campaign Insight Training Program which has trained over 10,000 party members in campaigning skills and techniques.
Prior to working for the ALP, Karl worked for the Department of Employment, Education and Training as Manager of Education and Research Services, and previously was a Senior Research Officer into labour market conditions and skill shortages.
Karl has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Research Methods & Statistics, and also has a Diploma in Public Relations.
