Mike Symon was born in the electorate and was educated in Box Hill and Bayswater.
Mike lives with his wife and two school aged daughters in Heathmont.
Mike commenced an electrical apprenticeship in 1983 as a 17 year old. Mike has worked for 20 years as a qualified electrician and continued to train in additional areas such as electrical, telecommunications, data and workplace training. Mike holds a Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety.
Mike brings local knowledge, energy, and a wealth of experience to representing the people of Deakin.
Mike is a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Innovation, the Standing Committee on Education and Training and the Standing Committee on Employment and Workplace Relations.
Mike is passionate about securing economic opportunities and jobs for Deakin, supporting local communities, and is focused on education and training, local infrastructure upgrades and restoring fair work laws.
Mike has been the Federal member of Deakin since 2007.
