Sam Dastyari was born in a small town in Northern Iran and migrated to Australia as a young child in 1988.
He joined the Labor Party following the Republican Referendum in 1999 and has a passion for
social policy and economics.
Sam has been the General Secretary of the Australian Labor Party (NSW Branch) since April 2010,
having previously held the positions of Assistant General Secretary and State Organiser.
Prior to joining the NSW Labor Party Office, Sam was a business communications consultant. He
has extensive Campaign experience and has been a Campaign Manager for Candidates at Local,
State and Federal elections.
Sam is married to Helen and together they are raising a daughter in Concord, Sydney.
