About Steve

Steve has lived in Adelaide’s western suburbs since he was a child, attending Cowandilla Primary School and Underdale High School.

Steve has raised two sons with his wife Wendy. His ongoing community service has included sporting clubs, Lions International, the Adelaide Airport Action Group, and assisting the area’s ageing migrant population.

Steve worked as a taxi driver, underwriter, electorate officer and senior ministerial policy advisor to the South Australian Minister for Ageing prior to being elected to federal Parliament in 2004 and 2007.

The health of the Gulf St Vincent, Adelaide's water supply and the local retiree population have been constant themes in Steve's work.

Steve is chairman of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health and Ageing and serves on the Communications, and Privileges and Members’ Interests Standing Committees.

Named after Sir John Hindmarsh 1786-1860, first Governor of South Australia.

Hindmarsh covers an area of approximately 73 sq km in inner western Adelaide. The main suburbs include Adelaide Airport, Brooklyn Park, Fulham, Glenelg, Grange, Henley Beach, Kidman Park, Kurralta Park, Morphettville, Plympton, Richmond, Semaphore Park, Torrensville, West Beach and West Lakes.
