Parliamentary Secretary and the Voluntary Sector, Senator Ursula Stephens and Federal Candidate for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, today officially opened the new library at Arndell Anglican College in Oakville.

The library was constructed as part of Federal Labor’s Building the Education Revolution (BER) program.

Arndell Anglican College received $2.5 million for the library under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century element of BER and $200,000 for classroom refurbishment under the National School Pride element of the program.

BER is a key element of the Gillard Labor Government’s $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan to support jobs, stimulate local economies and invest in important infrastructure for the long term.

Senator Stephens congratulated Arndell Anglican College on their new library and spoke of the benefit to both the school and local community.

“This state of the art facility will enable Arndell College to continue providing high quality education,’ said Senator Stephens.

“This investment of $2.7 million is significant for the future of the College and has the added benefit of bringing staff, parents and tradespeople together to deliver the project.“

Susan Templeman said the library represented an invaluable new facility for the local community.

“This significant investment by the Gillard Labor Government has resulted in a much-needed, high quality school library for our local area.

“Its construction has also boosted employment for local trades people, which is what we strived to achieve through BER and is the essence of the Economic Stimulus Plan.”

The $1.28 billion National School Pride program has delivered funding to over 9,400 eligible schools in every State and Territory for minor infrastructure and refurbishment.

The $14.1 billion Primary Schools for the 21st Century has delivered funding to over 7,900 eligible primary schools in every State and Territory for major new or refurbished infrastructure.
