Minister for Employment Participation, Mark Arbib, will tomorrow host an Indigenous Employment Forum, with some of Australia’s biggest corporations at Parliament House, Canberra.
The Indigenous Employment: Everyone’s Business forum will support Australian businesses in their efforts to close the gap on Indigenous employment outcomes.
It will focus on the key areas of school to work transitions, recruitment and retention strategies, training, mentoring, and building Indigenous enterprise.
“This event provides an excellent forum for business leaders to come together to network, share ideas and knowledge, and show their commitment to increasing employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians,” Senator Arbib said.
“Representatives from Indigenous businesses, major banks, top law firms, major retailers, large mining and resource companies, transport organisations and media and communications companies will join government to share their ideas and successes.”
Tonight, the Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin, will host a dinner for business leaders, featuring a keynote address by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, will open the forum with an address on Indigenous education, employment, and training.
This forum has been developed in partnership with the Business Council of Australia and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
It brings together government, business and partner organisations working on closing the gap on Indigenous disadvantage in economic participation.
This forum forms an important step in encouraging Australian business to play a part in Indigenous economic development.
