A re-elected Gillard Labor Government will work with the City of Darebin Council to redevelop the Reservoir Library.

Funding of $3 million has been announced by the Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government, Anthony Albanese, and Federal Member for Batman, Martin Ferguson.

The new Reservoir Library will include:

    • A new, full outfitted community library building
    • An underground car park
    • Landscaping and signage

“The Gillard Labor Government will help fund the upgrade and relocation to Reservoir Civic Centre, so this vital service hub can continue to serve the needs of this community”, Minister Albanese said.

“This is a really important project for our community,” Minister Ferguson said.

“The new development will offer resources and services for locals, support literacy outcomes for young people and promote social inclusion.

“The Reservoir Library redevelopment is a key part of Federal Labor’s approach to building more sustainable, stronger communities.”

This funding will build on Federal Labor’s record investment in local infrastructure, including $305,000 for the Neighbourhood Park Refurbishment and $4.9 million to refurbish the Lancaster Gate Community Centre.

“I look forward to seeing the new Reservoir Library become a reality,” Mr Ferguson said.

This project will be fully funded, consistent with the Gillard Labor Government’s commitment to return the budget to surplus in 3 years.
