Funding for Camden Tigers Soccer Club

The Gillard Labor Government has pledged to boost funding for the Camden Tigers Soccer Club for a new clubhouse and ground lighting.

The announcement was made today by Anthony Albanese, Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development and Labor Candidate for Macarthur, Nick Bleasdale.

The new clubhouse at the Tigers’ home is expected to include seating, a balcony, canteen, player change rooms, amenities and a referees’ room. New lighting will also be installed on two playing fields as part of the project.

“Investing in a new club house and lighting for the Camden Tigers is an important part of Federal Labor’s plans to build stronger local communities,” Mr Albanese said.

“This $1.2 million project will create local jobs in its construction phase and will be a great benefit to the more than 600 players and volunteers, as well as local residents.”

Nick Bleasdale said the Camden Tigers was one of the oldest sports clubs in the area and was celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

“The Gillard Labor Government is committed to investing in local infrastructure and services,” Nick Bleasdale said.

“But Tony Abbott and Russell Matheson would cut investments in the local community, including cutting Trades Training Centres at local high schools and cutting the computers in schools program.”

The soccer club funding will build on Federal Labor’s record investment in local infrastructure, including upgrades at Bicentennial Equestrian Park, Birriwa Reserve, Hayter Reserve, Knot Oval, Kirkham Netball Courts and Pat Konista Reserve,” Mr Albanese concluded.

Funding for this contribution will be fully offset over the forward estimates, consistent with the Gillard Labor Government’s commitment to return the budget to surplus in three years.
