Parliamentary Secretary for Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction, Bill Shorten, and Labor Candidate for McEwen Rob Mitchell, today attended the official opening of the new Library and Learning Neighbourhood at Diamond Creek East Primary School in Victoria.
The new library has been built as part of the Gillard Labor Government’s Building the Education Revolution program.
Bill Shorten congratulated the school and spoke of the benefit to both the school and local community.
He said that giving students facilities of this quality was an investment in their future, and the future of Australia.
Rob Mitchell said that “the library’s design provides adaptable spaces for the children of the school to study and learn.”
Bill Shorten said the Gillard Labor Government was committed to giving every child a quality education, building new facilities in every school in Australia and providing Computers in Schools.
He said that Tony Abbott had proposed to cut the Computers in Schools program, and Trades Training Centres, which would mean over 1.2 million students missed out on the chance to start learning a trade at High School.
Rob Mitchell said the Diamond Creek community would benefit from the investment in their local school.
The $3 million library was funded under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century element of the Federal Labor Government’s Building the Education Revolution.
