Record investment in infrastructure like highways, rail and ports

After more than a decade of neglect and infrastructure bottlenecks under the Liberal Government, we are investing in new infrastructure to move Australia forward like the National Broadband Network, 300,000 new computers in our schools, new trades training centres and improvements to make our roads and rail safer and more efficient.

Key Achievements:

  • Identified national needs: Established the independent body “Infrastructure Australia” charged with identifying the nation’s long term infrastructure needs and priorities to strengthen our economy by helping Australian business become more internationally competitive, boosting local jobs and exports.
  • Nation Building Plan: More than 44,000 nation-building infrastructure projects are underway or complete – supporting jobs today while building a platform for future growth, including major investments in transport, housing, clean energy and the largest school modernisation program in Australia’s history.
  • National Broadband Network: Work has commenced on the National Broadband Network, which will deliver affordable, world class broadband services to all Australian homes, businesses, schools and hospitals, and support 25,000 jobs per year during the rollout.
  • Improved road infrastructure:  Investing $27.7 billion over six years to fix and modernise the nation’s road infrastructure to lower transport costs, tackle the rising cost of urban congestion and cut travel times.
  • Increasing road safety: Upgrading hundreds of dangerous black spots and installing boom gates at rail crossings and adding rest stops for heavy vehicles.
  • Boosting export performance: Investing in rail and port infrastructure to reduce freight times and remove bottlenecks facilitating more efficient movement of goods and increasing productivity.
  • Supporting local communities: Completed over 3000 local community infrastructure projects like a playground in Jubilee Park Dubbo, tennis courts at North Arm Cove, a library upgrade in Adelaide Hills, a community hall in Ballarat and many others.
