Before the 2013 election, the Liberals promised hand on heart there would be “no cuts to the ABC”. Since that lie, Malcolm Turnbull cut $355 million from the ABC in 2014 then cut further in the 2016 Budget.
Australians do not want the Turnbull Government to cut the ABC’s budget, but we’ll only protect the ABC if we work together.
Can you sign our petition and tell Malcolm Turnbull: Hands off our ABC.
We’ve learned under Malcolm Turnbull that if you don’t properly fund the ABC, something has to give.
Worrying proof that Malcolm Turnbull’s budget cuts are stretching our ABC too thinly include:
- Painful ABC staffing cuts, with up to 200 ABC employees removed in 2017 to fund content.
- Cuts to music programming on ABC Radio National, a decision that has been condemned across the creative industries.
- Cessation of the ABC shortwave radio service in the Northern Territory and the Pacific, leaving audiences in remote NT without access to ABC services and the loss of an important service for trade and diplomacy.
