Jill Hall is the Federal Member for Shortland, being first elected in 1998. She grew up in Macksville NSW, and has lived with her husband and family in Belmont for over 26 years.

Before becoming a Federal Politician Jill obtained a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Newcastle, and worked as a rehabilitation counsellor.

Jill was extensively involved in local and state politics, serving as a Councillor on Lake Macquarie City Council from 1991-95 and Deputy Mayor from 1993-94. On 25 March 1995 Jill was elected to the NSW Legislative Assembly for Swansea, resigning on 1 September 1998 to contest the federal seat of Shortland.

Jill has been a member of the Australian Labor Party for 30 years, and believes that everyone deserves to be treated fairly, no matter where they live or how much they earn. Jill believes the Labor Party stands for equality of opportunity, which means that everyone has a right to services like health or education, and an income that assists them to care for their families.
