Commenting on a blog is a nice idea, but it limits the topics that we are able to discuss.
How about a forum section where we can post our comments and ideas for discussion? You could use the 'topic tags' as a base framework.
That way the blog comments might stay on topic!

Abbott on 4 corners.
one can read all the interview if one goes to the 4 corners web page
i was reading on a blog that
i was reading on a blog that members are asking Mr. Rudd to match abbotts
parental leave.
Please do not do that. I find his policy to be quite socialist.
It remind me also of the American way they fund their health for workers and isn't that one big disaster.
Company goes under no health policy.,
I realise abbotts is a levy but it sounded familiar.
Good sound government is what we need.
After all there is NO free lunch and big business would then charge more for good s and services and also the small business would pay more for what they need.
The levy would be OR BIG TAX would come from you and i.
Any way most woman with a brain can work out that if you use some of your entitlement s holidays and some long service leave you can extend the time that way.
B.A. Santamaria, ring any
B.A. Santamaria, ring any bells - Abbott is coming at us from the left. May I ask how many staff in the Prime Minister's office who would be over 25 years of age and have a sound knowledge of B.A. Santamaria et.al.
I look forward in seeking knowledge of the above , along with the spider.
Cheers,
THE MAGUS.
Can I say first I agree with
Can I say first I agree with Bill , it is hard to find the blog..
Paid parental leave - Other than the rank politics of Abbott on this issue, and the fact we all know he will never ever do it, one aspect in particular grates with me.
Why is someone who earns the minimum wage worth less under Abbott's plan than someone who earns $3000 a week ? Neither person has contributed to a scheme, nor has their employer, they both get money collected by taxpayers from bigger businesses, so why the difference ?
Withe Labor's plan and with the current bonus scheme every mother is treated the same. With prices and jobs on the line it seems like stealing from all of us to give to give more to the wealthy.
Let's introduce our policy from 1 July this year , and get Fair Work Australia and the Productivity Commission to review the rate and the number of weeks and operation of the scheme with changes ready for 1 July 2011 .

I think that nothing is done to counter Abbot on his attack on labor. It come so naturally for him to make headlines against Labor. Surely there must be someone on the side of labor who is equally eloquent.
He is such an easy target yet we are completely silent.
His past performance is one area we should take potshot at.
He seems to get a lot of support from many journalists .
His attack is focused on TAX.
Why not use cartoons?

. Kevin Rudd is looking good.
. Kevin Rudd is looking good. I would put my money on him. I am confident that the Rudd gove. will carry us through most successfully right up to and beyond our next election.
The Prime Minister airing His apologies was purely brilliant! Tony Abbott's party was almost turned on its head. The Rudd government's apologies stopped the oppositions Abbott's Liberal party in their tracks. This clever move forward not only stunned the opposition and the media (that is to say - liberal media lovers) it closed the door on derogative, discrediting statements made by them. It appears the Abbott's party is grasping at straws now. Mind you though, it would be reasonable to say that Tony Abbott is the Liberal Parties best chose for now and a perfect apponent, as fellow contestant for our Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

I would encourage the PM to
I would encourage the PM to think about what is best for the country before making a decision. Most decisions seem to be about what is best for Kevin Rudd, the Labor Party or their backers. If Kevin is such an honest, caring person as he portrays, he would not have made so many incredulous decisions. Giving away billions of dollars to every person (living and dead) in Australia and overseas was a snap decision that he would now regret. The country will be paying this off for many years. The insulation scheme was poorly run and mismanaged. Every child does not have a laptop. Hospitals are now worse off than when KR won the election. Copenhagen was embarrassing for Australia.
Kevin Rudd has failed the Australian people with his socialist agenda.
What idiocy! At least Kevin
What idiocy! At least Kevin Rudd HAS an agenda, unlike the Conservatives'
policy-free, mickey-mouse/one nation zone!
Ge your facts straight before making misguided comments such as these, a la one nation.
Funny, the Governor of the
Funny, the Governor of the Reserve Bank has backed Rudd 100% that our economy is in a terrific position and our national debt won't go beyond 10% of GDP (The Australian newspaper 2-03-10, FRONT PAGE). Thanks to the stimulus package.
If it wasn't for Rudd you and most of your friends would probably be un-employed.
Strange how we are only one of 4 countries in the world that didn't go into a recession.
It also refreshing that we finally have a government spending money on needed infrastructures as opposed to Howard hording the money.
The problem with the Liberal party is that they are still in shock that they are in opposition, and are fighting a losing race.
Abbott 's run in the polls has now reach peak oil, the media are getting a little tired and bored with the negativity. Interesting how the polls have stabilised. Rudd was so far in front over the last 2 years that it is only right that a correction took place.
Labor should be happy today -
Labor should be happy today - newspoll shows Labor maintains a good two party preferred lead over the Liberals 52 to 48 (not the whacking Rudd predicted). The big plus for Rudd today is that the Reserve Bank has backed him 100% that our economy is in a terrific position and our national debt won't go beyond 10% of GDP (The Australian newspaper 2-03-10)..

Rudd needs to Stop his
Rudd needs to Stop his ridiculous apologies and stand proud of what Labor has done this term. How embarrassing seeing him on the "Insiders" apologising for things that don't need an apology. What is Rudd's motivation?? - to hand the election to the Howard CLone. If Rudd is not up to the task at hand, now is the time to stand down and install Julia Gillard as the new Labor Leader.
If he stays, Labor needs to employ a media coach for Rudd. He just looks bad in front of the camera.
I am just wondering if maybe he is ill (as he doesn't look well and he constantly looks confused). It Would be a good idea if he had a medical examination as well (I am serious).
Julia Gillard was brilliant tonight (1/3/10) on the ABC 7.30 report with Kerry O'Brien. Her answers to O'Brien's question regarding Rudd's behaviour over the last few days (apologies) were spot on and left no doubt to the viewer how superb she is as a politican. Gillard may have just saved Rudd's standing in public.
The decision to allow
The decision to allow overseas meet into Australia has grave consequences for Australia’s human blood supplies and our meat industry.
If this meat is safe, then why do we still have a LIFE LONG BAN on the acceptance of human blood from anyone who was in the UK during the last outbreak of mad cow disease?
We have safe clean food and Australia has more than enough cattle to meet our needs. Please reconsider the decision to allow overseas meat into Australia. Failure will destroy our cattle industry and possibly many Australian’s lives to boot.
THERE IS NO KNOWN TEST FOR MAD COW DISEASE ONCE THE ANIMAL IS DEAD – so the meat can’t tested to ensure it meets current Australian standards.
AUSTRALIANS need to have confidence in the food they eat. They also have to have confidence in our human blood products which would be affected if contaminated meat is consumed by humans.
Beef industry ........ Look
Beef industry ........ Look not happy jan to discover a relaxing of imported meat from MAD cow countries...... i dont have enough faith that greedy entrepreneurs wont ruin a disease-free australian meat industry............ no amount of regulation seems to stop the unscrupulous... i guess i will return to being a vegetarian when the law changes...

Forget PINs - they can be covertly discovered. We need fingerprinting on our passports to be introduced - and it should be at Israel's cost once their criminal act has been proven. (If they are so innocent, why don't they just say so, so we can all move on? It's because if they say are innocent and it is a lie, they would be compounding their guilt. To say nothing allows them to escape that additional sin.)

I NEVER SAW THIS ON THE ABC was it elsewhere
but as i said as i not looking now it really doesnt matter just making a point
Lucy, Bundaberg, QL no need
Lucy, Bundaberg, QL no need to say anything you said all i wanted to say,
But no doubt abbott will find away to criticize Mr. Combet
But this his expertise as an Engineer, and other degrees and his back ground re the
explaining or work choices to us he will do a great job
But the abc along with msm will find something nasty to say
seems thats all the media do now. i feel we live in a very bereft society'
I have decided not to look at the abc new on line again their performance is appauling the only way to find out real news is to go to crickey.com.au. and also watch question time we have our new t.v that records set at 2 m every day and we watch q.t in stead of the late news
I would commend this to every one that way you really know whats happening
for instance i think i saw Hockey with his mobile phone it looked like he was msm
or what ever they say, I may be wrong of course but really come on its question time not play time.
A novel problem, which the
A novel problem, which the Australian media has yet to terms with, is dealing with a Prime Minister who is willing to take responsibility. After twelve years of a Howard government where the tactic in any crisis, such as AWB, Children Overboard etc, was to deny knowledge of the facts and blame departments for not passing on pertinent information, it is refreshing to find that Mr Rudd has the strength of character to accept responsibility for the failings of others. There are many people who bear responsibility for the shortcomings of this program. At the beginnings, this industry was not regulated. There has been only one thing that stops me, a seventy-year-old pensioner with no background in home maintenance, from purchasing some batts and attempting to stuff them in the ceiling myself, and that is COMMON SENSE. It is my responsibly, not Peter Garrett's or Kevin Rudd’s, to check the bona fides of every tradesman that I engage to do work on my home. It is the responsibility of State Governments to ensure that only qualified tradesmen in the building industry are registered. It is the responsibility for an employer to maintain a safe work environment. It is the responsibility of any government to conduct risk management studies before approving a program. It seems to me that the record of unfortunate incidents stemming from these programs were well within the boundaries of acceptable risk and the statistics comparing the industry before and after the scheme commenced show that this was the fact. If we want a completely risk free environment before attempting any activity, then no motorist would set out on the roads for fear of encountering an untrained unlicensed, incapable driver on a poorly maintained strip of road. Keeping things in perspective is the responsibility of the media.
Lucy, you are spot on with
Lucy, you are spot on with your comment. With the media deciding to be judge, jury & executioner, it looked as if Kev was going to use COMMON SENSE and support his minister through to a resolution... until today! By demoting Garrett he has made it clear that we are governed by media. If we are to blame (and get rid of) the responsible Minister every time a shonky operator caused a problem in an industry, then there will not be many Ministers left. After Howard I promised myself I would never vote Liberal. Keep this up and I may break my promise!
Well said Lucy I have been
Well said Lucy
I have been waiting for some realistic commentary on the responsibility of all concerned. It is really unfortunate that young men have died and I hope that justice is brought to bear through the investigations being made for their families . Despite our industrial relations and workplace safety laws we still have tragedies in the workplace. As for the politics which is set to continue by the Coalition despite the Prime Minister taking control, I am more determined then ever not to vote for the Liberal Party. I am glad that I changed my loyalty to Labor at the last election. With their performance and lack of meaningful policy I would have been ashamed to admit that I had voted for them.
Kevin keep the red tie and
Kevin keep the red tie and Peter Garrett. Peter put safety measures in place for the insulation project. Responsiblity now lies with the employer to enforce these measures.

i beleive in Tasmania it is compulsory to have fire alarms
wired in to every home and they also have been sent by post last year
a plug in device that allows the home owner to know if there is any problem with wiring
perhaps it may be a good investment for the whole country
and also has any one noticed that a lib senator has bought a motion in to the house
re he death penalty so it can never be introduced in the states ( which of course is to be applauded.)
now is that strange we have two state elections coming up
now how will abbott vote, I looked for it on the abc but could not find.
it once again reporting is missing on the abc when we use to see every thing there
well when we where kids and growing up any way.

they try i am sure. But
as an ordinary citizen i have tried to even ring the abc and ask why certain things where not on their web news and i was fobbed off/
We all need to write to the directors and ring the abc and tell them we are NOT happy
with coverage in general and i do not like the drum its a bit like a magazine at the
doctors surgery you dont read.
Where has the Bastian the abc of our society gone since it was set up
it is unrecognisable, they may say they are moving with the times.
But we just want to hear the news and make up our own minds.
I cannot stand peoples opinion in my face all day and in my ear so i have stopped listening to them
Lori-anne, there has been
Lori-anne, there has been very little positive to focus on.
Rudd has fallen from one disaster to another in his attempt to overcome the GFC. Sure, Australia is sitting in a better position than most, but we were before the GFC too, and Rudd had nothing to do with that.
The Rudd Government needs to
The Rudd Government needs to focus more on the positive. Lately the media has been attacking the Government very harshly, bringing up all the negatives that they can possibly think of. Labor now needs to get on the offensive and really hammer the issue of how well the Government handled the global financial crisis. Australians need to realise that without this Government's excellent ability to handle the economy, Australia would be in either the same predicament or in a worse state than our overseas counterparts.

Thank goodness for Digital
Thank goodness for Digital Democracy. An era now where the individual can counter the rubbish coming from the keyboards of the print media journalist, the rubbish visualising from cameras of the Television media, and the rubbish echoing from the microphones of the shock jocks. Not to mention the utter lack of objectivity spewing forth from cities and regional paper editiors.
During the coming election Rudd needs to utilise the individuals and the bloggers via all aspects of the internet to counter the rubbish coming forth from the aboved mentioned.

He lacks compassion.
He lacks the ability to create a result.
He lacks empathy to all Australians.
one may have thought so, but
one may have thought so, but according to various articles this week, Kevin Rudd and the Labor Party are actually polling at the same level as 2007 when they went to the election and kicked Howard's butt, not only out of office but out of his own seat (how embarrassing is that?). Due to Rudd's extremely high approval rating the past two and half years it is only logical there would be a correction.
Abbott is false sense sercuity for the backward minds of this country - let them believe.
Forgot 3 sentences, can be done in 3 words
Define Rudd in 3 words - "Better than Abbott".
Define Abbott in 3 words- "A devious disgrace".
Schtang, tell it like it is
Schtang, tell it like it is on face book i am too old for that and i dont like face book
but you young ones can do a lot of good with it.
I must be a bit like the rallies we all attended over years.
I went to a Hansen protest onece, a few times and in the end there was more of us than her followers.
So its just getting the word out there. Abbot has no policies he would break the country financially because he said he was boarded with economics.
May be he would bring back the death penalty , get rid of medicare
bring back national service, Young people have never lived through the conservatives its up to you and your good friends to do the country a favour and get out there and i suppose these days it is face book.
tell them about previous policies of the conservatives and liberal, they may have missed it , if you are not bought up in a home that is A political then you would not know.
I have met kids in my sons age group who thought uni was always paid through HECS

who would PUSH THE BUTTON PULL THE TRIGGER
and build the facility ask some one in the street and see what they say then
of course some would say yes..
so these are the people that abbott attracts.
Also the comment he made in the Launeston examiner 17th/18 th Feb 2010

sorry to post the below but we all have to know wht this man is up to.
There are all types of christians on this earth and I am NOT one of his type/
Abbott has suggested people think about re-introducing the death penalty. Although he says he doesn’t have a policy to bring in the death penalty, if the matter came before the parliament he would allow MP’s a conscience vote.
I found it on the web thismorning but it originated from a news paper
re your liberal friends you
re your liberal friends you mentioned they vote with the pocket.
I know that a lot of people do not think deeply about things
so just remind them of Tonys Work Choices. they would proably loose their weekend entitlements and many other things in the work place,
remind them that minchin said that work choices did not go far enough
And of course there is the gay community that would proably suffer with the liberals
all the things they have achieved recently re the laws of justice re their property etc.
Then there is the fact that liberals always like to charge up front for uni fees.
A lot of young people have no idea what the liberals are capable of
My husband was called up for national service with a marble in a barrel
shipped off to war.
NOW THATS THE DAY I STARTED VOTING LABOR AND HAVE NEVER WAIVERED.
good on you stick with labor
good on you stick with labor kevin rudd is a decent man, labor got rid of national
service, which was a good idea because there is no soldier like a willing soldier
a person who signs up themselves is a better soldier than a person who is drawn by lottery. & as far as the state of the nation its in top form kevin P.M put the money back to the little people not the big greedy corporates who would only further stuff the
world economy the ordinary every day person circulate the money thebig corporate s
hoard & pay little taxes as KEVIN P.M KNOWS. i will vote labor again next time.
i noticed post re Q.A did

It was obvious that girl was a Liberal upstart and it was setup by the neo-liberals. What was more pathetic was when the right-winged paper the Daily Telegraph (Sunday Telegraph) give her wide coverage, post Q&A. The Telegraph is so predictable...
What does Abbott think? that we are all foolish, gullible recknecks, who believe his outlandish stunts and lies.
This is the sort of stunt that the Labor Party needs to counter in the media.
I have a lot of Liberal
I have a lot of Liberal supporter friends on my facebook. You would be surprised by the rubbish they believe in. Most think Abbott is an idiot but still happy to vote for him. My work is to get a few to come around and see the light. I do think that a lot of Labor 's support from the last election will be erroded this year.
As I always state, don't underestimate the gullibility and greed of the voter to go with the head in the sand approach when it comes to the ETS (and vote Abbott)..
The Liberal party's climate policy is equivalent to an atheist believing in god. Pretty must sums up the neo-liberals at present.
Lindsay Tanner's appearance on Q and A on Monday night was brillant. He made Barnaby Joyce look like a schoolboy moron. Between Tanner, Gillard & hopefully Rudd, they will get Labor a second term. But Labor needs to lift their game when it comes to media appearances and selling their policies to the public. Tanner and Gillard can't do it all.
