Media Statement - 24th January 2005

It was with sorrow that I heard today of the death of opera singer June Bronhill.

June Bronhill was a great Australian.

She has made a remarkable contribution to Australian culture and the world of opera.

June Bronhill has died following a career that took her from Broken Hill in New South Wales to international success.

June Bronhill's soprano voice brought joy to many thousands of opera fans over four decades and she was honoured for her achievements with an OBE.

She is a great loss to opera and to Australia.

On behalf of Federal Labor I send condolences to her friends and family.
