Biography

Damian Hale was born in Ipswich, Queensland in 1969, moving with his family to the Territory in 1974.

Damian’s parents, Bob and Bev Hale, were teachers who spent their lives teaching in Katherine, Maningrida and Darwin. Damian is married to Jennifer and they have 5 children: Robert 16, Anthony 15, Jaclyn 13, Gabby 10 and Dominic 7.

Damian was educated in Darwin, completing his secondary education at St Johns. Upon finishing school, Damian commenced an apprenticeship as a Green keeper / Golf Superintendent.

In 1992 he was awarded the Northern Territory Apprentice of the Year and Australian Apprentice of the Year.

Like most Territorians Damian has always had an active interest in sport, representing the Territory in both Australian Rules and Rugby League. Damian played and coached at St Mary’s for many years.

Damian was appointed the AFL coach of the NT institute of Sport in 2005, combining this role with his position as the Head Coach of NT Thunder.
