Biography

Jon is a long term Longman resident and a strong advocate for the local community.

His background is in the travel and aviation industries and he understands the importance of the tourism industry for jobs and the economy.

From 1989 – 1998 Jon was a Member of the Queensland Parliament with a track record of delivering on key infrastructure projects, such as the Caboolture Hospital and key new schools for the area.

Since leaving the State Parliament, Jon has been a strong voice for the small business sector. He has been active as both Chairman and Board representative of the Caboolture Business Enterprise Centre.

Regional and cultural development are key passions for Jon and is evident via his long association with the internationally renowned Woodford Folk Festival, where he has been responsible for the expansion and management of on site facilities.

Jon is heavily involved in the development of junior sportswomen as administrator of the Sunstate Wanderers Softball organisation.

Jon and his wife Carryn have lived on Bribie Island for 22 years. They have two daughters.

Name Derivation: Named after Irene Longman 1877-1964, first female member of the Queensland Parliament 1929-1932, and third woman elected to a parliament in Australia.

Area and Location Description: Longman covers an area of approximately 477 sq km covering much of the local government area of Caboolture and a portion of the northern part of Pine Rivers Shire. Suburbs and towns include Beachmere, Bribie Island, Burpengary, Dakabin, Deception Bay, Donnybrook, Kallangur, Ningi, North Lakes, Toorbul and parts of Caboolture, Morayfield and Narangba.

Products/Industries of the Area: Tourism, light industry, beef cattle, horse studs, prawn farming, poultry farms, pig farming, and various crops including grains, pineapples, fruit and flower farms.
