Candidate for Ryan
Stephen is a native title claim lawyer dedicated to advocacy for human rights and social justice issues. He grew up in Toowong and attended Bardon Primary School and St Peter's Lutheran College.
Stephen travelled around Australia and abroad before completing degrees in Law and Indigenous Studies at Southern Cross University. At university Stephen was chairperson of the Student Representative Council and was regularly involved in social and environmental campaigns.
Stephen was admitted as a barrister in 2004 and worked on a number of pro bono matters for asylum seekers
In 2006 Stephen moved to the Pilbara region of North Western Australia to work for the Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation as a native title claim lawyer. From 2006 to 2010 Stephen worked on a number of large scale mining and resources agreements between traditional owners and mining companies.
In 2012, after a period of working in private practice in northern New South Wales, Stephen moved back to Brisbane to work for Queensland South Native Title Services where he worked predominantly on native title claims in the context of Federal Court litigation.
Stephen lives in Mitchelton and is married with two young daughters.
