Tim grew up in Perth, where he lives with his wife Lindsay and two young daughters. Before his election in 2016 he practised as a barrister representing victims suffering from terminal asbestos disease.
While attending high school and university, Tim helped his father in his small business in South Perth.
In 1999, Tim started fighting for justice for those who need help, commencing work at Slater and Gordon lawyers. He initially worked in most areas of personal injuries law and represented injured workers.
Since 2002 Tim has specialised in asbestos litigation. Tim also represented Indigenous landowners in Papua New Guinea and Bougainville in class actions against large international corporations.
Tim is passionate about Indigenous issues. He has spent time in a volunteer capacity working and living in Punmu, a remote Indigenous community located in the North West of Western Australia.
He also acted for many Indigenous victims of road trauma, often travelling to remote communities to negotiate compensation claims on behalf of injured plaintiffs.
Tim is currently the National Vice President of the Australian Labor Party. He was also a Federal Candidate in the seat of Swan in the 2010 Federal Election, and has played an active role in many State and Federal campaigns before and since.
In 2014, Tim helped review the WA Labor Party and secured vital reforms that give members a greater say.
Tim’s other interests include tennis, golf, cricket and running.
