Shadow Minister Assisting for Resources

Tim Hammond MP is the Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs, Shadow Minister Assisting for Resources, and Federal Member for Perth. He was first elected at the 2016 Federal Election.

Before entering Parliament Tim practised as a barrister, predominantly advising and appearing on behalf of victims of asbestos diseases. He also advised and appeared regularly in medical negligence, workplace injury, motor vehicle, public liability and employment and industrial relations matters.

Prior to becoming a barrister, Tim was a solicitor at Slater and Gordon for 10 years, based in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. He was made a partner at the age of 29 in 2004.

Tim is passionate about Indigenous issues. He has spent time in a volunteer capacity working in remote Indigenous communities located in the North West of Western Australia. He also acted for many Indigenous victims of road trauma, often travelling to remote communities to negotiate compensation claims on behalf of injured plaintiffs.

Tim ran unsuccessfully as the Labor candidate for the seat of Swan in Western Australia at the 2010 Federal Election. He is currently the Senior Vice President of the Australian Labor Party and Deputy Chair of the Australian Labor International Committee. Prior to being appointed to his current shadow ministry he served as Shadow Assistant Minister for the Digital Economy and Startups; Innovation; Resources and Western Australia.

In 2014, Tim led a panel that reviewed the WA Labor Party and secured vital structural reforms that give Party members a greater say.

Tim lives in Mount Lawley, in the heart of the Federal Perth electorate, with his wife Lindsay and their two young daughters. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Laws from Murdoch University. Tim’s other interests include tennis, golf, cricket and running.
