Candidate for Stirling

Melita Markey, Labor’s candidate for Stirling, is a proud member of the local community. Melita lives in Karrinyup with her husband and two daughters, and works in Osborne Park at the Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia.

Melita’s parents, Robert and Rose Marie Vojakovic, founded the Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia (ADSA) in 1979 as a not-for-profit organisation to provide support and essential services to victims of asbestos related diseases. Robert and Rose Marie are champions of the Labor values of labour rights, compassion and fairness – and Melita shares these values too.

Through her work at ADSA, Melita has fought tirelessly to provide support and advocacy to the victims of asbestos-related diseases and has seen firsthand the devastating effects of asbestos on the lives of working men and women. Melita knows how important it is that we protect our world-class health system and continue to provide access to all Australians - not cut funding to give tax breaks to big businesses and banks.

Melita knows that people in Stirling are struggling, especially local students and patients. Melita will stand up and fight for our community by working to secure more funding for our local hospitals and ensuring every Australian child has access to properly funded and high quality education that will train them for the jobs of the future.

Melita will fight to ensure that everyone in Stirling has equal access to opportunities and a fair go.
