ALP National Secretariat is seeking expressions of interest for an exciting role in our Digital team:

Digital Communications Manager

The Communications Manager is responsible for maintaining Labor’s online social media channels in support of the National Secretariat’s digital strategy. Additionally, the Communication Manager works with Federal Labor MPs and Senators and the National Secretariat on maintaining and updating website content and drafting supporter communications.

The role creates and delivers innovative online content to support campaigns, fundraising and supporter engagement.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of our digital strategy
  • Develop and source online materials including graphics and video content for the ALP’s social channels.
  • Assist with other digital campaigning tasks as necessary, including email campaigning, online advertising.
  • Meet social media KPIs.
  • Collaborate with members of Federal government offices on appropriate digital summaries for policy announcements and other content initiatives.
  • Collaborate with progressive organisation professionals on key campaigning projects.
  • Design and deliver training to Federal Government staff.
  • Work closely with State ALP counterparts on campaign projects.

Comply with employment laws and all internal policies including the ALP National Code of Conduct and associated policies, OHS, anti-discrimination, privacy, security, use of ALP IT resources, financial delegations, and record keeping.

Essential skills

  • 5+ years' experience in digital campaigning or social media management
  • Excellent at creating effective content for social media platforms and understanding of social media best practices.
  • Ability to learn and develop appropriate content for new digital platforms quickly and independently
  • Ability to use graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator
  • Ability to use video editing tools such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier Pro
  • Ability to analyse and make conclusions from basic data
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, thoughtfully and to flexible mediums
  • Capacity to exercise judgement, discretion, and initiative within a politically sensitive environment
  • Excellent multitasking skills
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Great interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
  • Capacity to work to tight deadlines
  • Able to work without close direction and supervision
  • Commitment to the values of the ALP

Desirable skills

  • Ability to use web development languages such as HTML and CSS
  • Experience with conducting some audience and persona research

About the role

This is a full-time appointment based in Canberra.

The position is part of the Digital Unit and reports to the Digital Director.

The position will be filled at Level 1 of the Projects/Operational classification ($72,662 – $108,993 + 12% superannuation) as set out in the ALP National Secretariat Terms and Conditions of Employment. Remuneration will be discussed with suitable applicants.
