Shaneane Weldon is Labor’s Candidate for O’Connor.
Shaneane is a Wangkatja / Ngaantjarra woman raised in the North Eastern Goldfields country of her mother, father and grandparents. She has a degree in Community Management and Development, as well as a Bachelor of Education.
Through her community work with local government, Aboriginal affairs and local community groups Shaneane has been a leader in her local town and the broader region. She is the Deputy President of the Shire of Laverton where she has been a Shire Councillor for the past 16 years.
Shaneane is an active board member of several not-for-profit organisations and Native Title bodies, including more recently the Yilka Talitji Aboriginal Prescribed Body Corporate where she is a Traditional Owner on her father’s side of the family.
Being a teacher by trade, Shaneane sees education and preservation of culture as key issues in her region and pride herself on being a role model within her community.
Shaneane works hard to ensure the younger generation of regional Western Australia have their voices heard, and will fight for their voices in Parliament.
She has put her hand up as the Candidate for O’Connor because she knows that an Albanese Labor Government will be the partner her community needs in Canberra.
