The Australian Labor Party National Secretariat is seeking applications from suitably qualified persons for an exciting campaign role.

Technical Organiser:

The Technical Organiser’s role is to support the ALP in achieving its campaign objectives by leveraging campaign technology. The role has a focus on providing training and support directly to local campaign teams and on producing analytical reports to track the progress of campaign teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide support to users of the ALP’s technology systems
  • Participate directly in the planning and development of technology systems
  • Ensure functional communication of issues between users and system providers
  • Participate directly in system testing and user experience research
  • Assist in the development documentation and help deliver end user training, both one on one and in group sessions

Essential skills:

  • Demonstrated and well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to form productive working relationships with a range of users and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management databases and similar products.
  • Familiarity with project management skills and concepts.
  • Ability to work autonomously or under limited direction and occasionally to compressed timeframes.
  • Commitment to the values of the ALP.
  • Capacity to exercise judgement, discretion, and initiative within a politically sensitive environment. 

Desirable skills:

In addition to the essential skills listed above, preference will be given to candidates who have familiarity and experience with any of the following:

  • user experience research and/or design;
  • relational databases and the SQL query language;
  • data analysis and visualisation; or
  • programming and scripting languages including R, JavaScript, PowerShell and Ruby. 

About the role

This is a fixed term, full-time appointment based in Canberra.
May require work outside of regular business hours and some travel.
The position reports to the Director Target Seats Unit.
