Candidate for Pearce
Thomas is a trained electrician. He and Siobhan have been happily married for eight years.
He grew up with four brothers. His father runs a painting business and his mother works in hospitality.
Thomas has a unique understanding of the importance of both university and vocational education. He completed a diploma of business at Maitland TAFE in NSW, then a bachelor of business at the University of Newcastle, and later retrained as an electrician. Thomas will oppose $100,000 degrees and supports Labor’s plan to back TAFE.
Having worked in hospitality as a student, he understands the importance of weekend penalty rates for paying the bills and putting food on the table. He will fight to defend weekend penalty rates. Thomas believes everyone should access to quality health care – your Medicare card, not your credit card, should determine your access to health care.
Thomas believes we must build the Australian economy by supporting education and training, not by cutting funds for universities, TAFEs and research agencies like the CSIRO. There can’t be a plan for jobs without a positive plan for education.
