Jim is a passionate local advocate for his electorate of Rankin – born and bred in Logan City, where he lives with his wife Laura.
He was first elected at the 2013 election and was soon appointed Shadow Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Investment.
Prior to that, Jim was the Executive Director of the Chifley Research Centre which is a think tank committed to the advancement of public policy debate and progressive thinking in Australia. He has been the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer, and has also written a book about the Australian economy.
He has a PhD in political science and international relations from the Australian National University as well as a first class honours degree in public policy from Griffith University.
