Passing of Simon Crean

On behalf of the Australian Labor Party, I extend my deepest sympathies to the Crean family at the passing of Simon Crean.

Simon Crean was a great Australian.

Leader of the Australian Labor Party. A minister in four Labor governments. A distinguished trade union leader, including five years as President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

Simon’s lifelong commitment to the labour movement places him amongst the greats of our Party.

The passing of someone so relatively young is a shock to us all and a reminder of how fragile life can be.

At this time all Labor members come together to remember a public life of extraordinary significance, and to express our condolences and sympathies to Simon’s family.
