Gender Equality

Women’s equality is at the heart of what we do as a Labor Government.

It is essential for strengthening our economy, our society and our nation.

For almost a decade, successive Coalition Governments failed to listen to the needs of women and defunded services at the flick of a switch.

Now, we’ve got a Prime Minister and government that is making decisions specifically to benefit women and contribute to gender equality.

We’ve made substantial structural investments, including:

  • In addressing violence against women,
  • A pay rise for aged care workers, 9 in 10 of whom are women
  • Modernising paid parental leave and making child care cheaper
  • Improving gender pay gap transparency
  • Preventing sexual harassment at work
  • Paying Superannuation on Government paid parental leave
  • Transforming our workplace relations frameworks to centre gender equality
  • Reintroducing gender responsive budgeting.

We’re not doing this because it is nice to do, we are doing this because it is critical to the growth and success of our nation and our economy and to our identity as a fair country.
